During my time at UNH, I was a graduate-level statistics tutor, assisting my classmates with courses such as Psychometrics and Statistics, Research Methods, and Tests and Measures in Industry. For the full duration of my two-year program, I worked as a graduate assistant (and later as a human resources consultant) for the Center for Learning Resources at UNH.

While at Knox, I explored a wide variety of fields ranging from chemistry and biology to history and economics, foreign languages and culture to creative writing and psychology. My major in Asian Studies focused on the history, language, and culture of Japan, culminating in spending my junior year studying abroad at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. My senior thesis, which examined depictions of Emperor Hirohito during World War II, received the Mikiso Hane Prize for Excellence in Asian Studies.

I traveled to Tokyo as one of approximately 25 students chosen from the GLCA/ACM consortium of schools. I lived with a host family in the Nerima area of Tokyo and attended Japanese language, culture, and history classes at the School of International Liberal Studies (国際教養学部). During the school year, I worked as an English tutor to a Tokyo family. In addition to thoroughly exploring Tokyo, I visited other major cities including Kyoto, Kobe, Nara, Nagano, and Hiroshima. During Waseda's spring break during February and March, I spent a month living like a monk at Sogenji, a Buddhist temple in Okayama, Japan as part of a cultural immersion program.
